AHI assisted the Asian Development Bank with a feasibility study for designing a dedicated housing finance institution in Bhutan that would meet the strong demand for housing in the country. ADB and the Royal Monetary Authority were interested in exploring the feasibility of an institution that could (i) provide market based housing finance to all segments of the borrowers, including lower-and lower-middle income (LLMI) borrowers, (ii) provide a vehicle to channel savings; (iii) expand long-term lending opportunities outside of the traditional bank channel; and (iv) possibly kick-start securitization through mortgages.
