American homes: some are real cheap!
Think all American homes are huge McMansions with soaring prices?

Think again. For $119,000, CNN lists a site showing pictures of properties like this:

perfectly fine examples of what were once typical, middle-income households, before the average size of new homes went soaring. Though not huge, some of them are quite roomy, at 2,000 square feet [185 m²] or more.
And what makes these homes cheap? Their towns: not California, Massachusetts, or the high-job-growth coastal corridors, but heartland America: Rutland VT, Greenville SC, Elmira NY, Mobile AL; Sioux City IA (pronounced soo):
Many of these cities have seen very slow population growth over the last few decades; little demand on their housing supply, keeping prices cool and giving homebuyers a lot of bang for their buck.
